RealMusic.ru now allows you to upload music under Creative Commons 3.0

This picture symbolizes the speed with which I wrote this news, for two months have passed. But better late than even later.

So, RealMusic added the ability to license works under Creative Commons 3.0.

What kind of animal is that?

RealMusic - service for musicians. You can put your songs / videos / poems. They will be available for listening, downloading, embedding in sites using a special code. There are statistics. There are no restrictions on the duration / number / size of the file.

You can blog a group / artist. You can add the announcement of the concert in the poster. You can buy a PRO- account to get additional buns. There is an online radio.

There are many such sites. How is it different from others?

There are quite a few such sites. But this is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, among the existing in RuNet. It appeared in 2001, before Circles , ThankYou, and even such international sites as Jamendo . The main functionality was available back in 2007 - then I first encountered this site. Many novice groups laid out their records on it before the popularization of VKontakte. Yes, before it was decided to post there, after 2007, most beginners began to manage the group in VC.

Now on the site, if you believe the data indicated on it, 89323 musicians, 5917 authors and 711002 tracks.

Clear. So what about old news?

12.12.2013 I received a letter to the mail with the following content:

Starting today, every musician will be able to assign a Creative Commons license to his track!

What it is? What is it for? What for?
You will find the answers in the special section of the Creative Commons License that is dedicated to this unique phenomenon in the field of the protection of musicians' rights.

For those who feel insecure with the phrase “copyright”, we strongly recommend that you visit the Copyright section of RealMusic .

Now the site has a special section for music licensed under CC .

What is good?

The fact that quite popular and the old Russian site began to support these licenses, following foreign services. The copyright situation is heating up.

In Russia as well.

RealMusic set a good example to the rest. And I introduced a large number of people to Creative Commons .

The fact is that many creative people share the fruits of their labor. But our legislation does not allow. Does not allow to give. Give anything copyrighted. Be it a song or a program code.

It is easier to show the check, the contract of sale, than to prove that the author has allowed you something. However, not only in Russia. But in the EU, the US, free licenses are at least recognized and valid. They work for us only as license agreements corresponding to the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. With restrictions. Let's say a Russian can at any moment withdraw such a license and request a material reward for using his song / book / etc

Many people do not understand how these licenses work and work. In this regard, many potential supporters are opposed to them. The more free licenses are mentioned, the more they are used, the more people will be in the know. There will be fewer problems with incomplete / incorrect information. More likely to be a full implementation.

So, do you advise everyone to start using RealMusic abruptly ?

I like Jamendo more , I wrote about it . There, each performer must send a signed certificate. With the confirmation of their rights. If anything - the person who sent the certificate will be guilty. RealMusic is not so steaming .

He is good Russian interface. A beginner Russian-speaking group is quite suitable as an addition to the VKontakte group. As a service that allows you to listen, download their songs and embed the player with them in the sites.

PS Flaws / errors / typos in PM.
