This weekend, the universe of "Dungeons and Dragons" knocked as much as 40 years. Although many D & D fans still agree that computer implementations can never replace imagination, attempts to transfer cunning rules on the other side of the monitor do not stop - over the years 85 games have been released, which were officially ( and not quite ) based on D & D rules and settings. , and the first of them appeared only a year later after the release of the original board game.

Just in case: Dungeons & Dragons (also known as D & D) is a board fantasy role-playing game developed by Gary Gygex and Dave Arneson. It was first published in 1974 by Tactical Studies Rules, Inc., after 1997 it was published by Wizards of the Coast (WotC). The most successful period is the time from 1988 to 2005, when a lot of classic games came out; for MMO, D & D started licensing since 2006. Released in 1998, Baldur's Gate, the immortal legend of games in the D & D setting, today feels great on the iPad, hinting that the universe can still have a great future.

image D & D was very different from the traditional desktop wargames of the time: the game had fantastic creatures and objects, the Dungeon Master and a group of characters, sent under the command of the player in search of adventure.

Harry Gygeks , the author of D & D, who is deservedly called the “father of role-playing games,” was so fond of his brainchild that he spent working on the game up to 14 hours a day. Only health problems that had arisen at the end of his life forced him to “slow down a little” because he lacked strength. But the fruits of his labors continue to live - at present, the fifth edition of the rules is being developed.

Due to the presence of halflings, elves, gnomes, orcs and dragons, many have suggested that the world of D & D is similar to the works of R. R. Tolkien. Later Gaygeks argued that the influence of "The Lord of the Rings" was minimal, and the use of elements from the trilogy - just a marketing ploy. Nevertheless, at different times, the work of various famous science fiction writers had a beneficial effect on the game: Roger Zelazny, Paul Anderson, Robert Howard, Edgar Burroughs, Lion Sprague de Camp and many others.
