In 2013, HP sold most of the patents purchased with Palm, to LG (which seems to have released smart TVs on webOS). But a certain package of patents remained, and he is now sold to another company, Qualcomm. To be precise, about 1,400 US patents and 1,000 patents from other countries are sold. This package covers some HP and Palm technologies.
Some patents concern key webOS technologies, others - iPAQ (there were such PDAs from HP). By the way, I once had a long time HP iPAQ 2210, the PDA was great. The price of iPAQ series PDAs is still kept, both used and new devices (physically new, they were released quite a while).

So, many of the patents sold by Qualcomm relate to this series of handheld computers from HP. Qualcomm itself makes chips, but not phones, tablets, or other mobile devices. It may well be that now the company will expand the scope of activities, starting to work in the field of software for mobile devices.
The acquired package of patents will help the company defend itself against possible lawsuits, when (and if) it starts producing software for mobile devices, and maybe mobile devices themselves.
