There are advances in decoding the Voynich Manuscript

The very famous and mysterious book of the Voynich Manuscript , about which every lover of cryptography has heard, has finally begun to reveal its secrets.

This manuscript is a book with a large number of illustrations and explanations to them. All illustrations are written using an unknown writing system and until recently it was not at all clear if there is any useful information in the book. And literally last year, as a result of the analysis of the manuscript by theoretical physicist Marcelo Montemurro of the University of Manchester, there was hope that the manuscript is not a hoax and definitely contains a meaningful message.
Apparently this gave some impetus to the researchers, and finally a breakthrough was made. Oddly enough, the first steps were taken by botanist Arthur O. Tucker (Arthur O. Tucker) from the University of Delaware and IT specialist Rexford H. Talbert.
The results of their research were published in the 100th edition of HerbalGram - The Journal of the American Botanical Council.

The first image, at the beginning of the article, shows an illustration from the Voynich manuscript and an illustration from the Codex Cruz-Badianus of the Aztec Herbalist of 1552. Both illustrations depict the Ipomoea murucoides plant common in Guatemala and southern Mexico. Both show a rhizome with clawed processes and white flowers.

And in the lower image, Opuntia is guessed from the cacti family, the caption under the picture is easily translated into the name of a plant in the dialect of the Aztec language.

The researchers, finding similarities in the styles of drawings, were able to identify 37 plants from 303 presented, 6 animals and one mineral. The habitat of the identified objects is Central America. And the names are similar in spelling to the names of these objects in Spanish, Aztec, Mishtek and Taino. Based on these findings, they suggested that the book was written in one of the dialects of the Aztec language, and it describes the contents of the botanical garden in central Mexico.

PS: If someone who can not translate, it is interesting to read in more detail about their study, write in the comments, and I will add an article.
