Monetization of web projects at the initial stage. Personal experience

This post was born after several discussions in the topics about startups. This is my first post on Habré, please do not hit hard =).

There is a problem

The same question torments everyone: “I made a project, people seem to be walking. Whether to hang on this project advertising? Will it scare off visitors? ”
I will try to present my vision of monetization of web projects at the initial stage of development. Under the initial stage, I understand exactly the moment when it seems that the main functionality is already working, and the services are running, and are promoting in various ways, but there is still no large flow of visitors. Unfortunately, quite a few projects do not have “explosive” dynamics of attendance and hang for a long time at this stage.

Who will give us money?

I'll start from afar. We all roughly imagine how the ranking of sites in search engines is performed. The search engine analyzes the query, evaluates the internal (meta-tags, title, page content) and external (the frequency of citing the site, links pointing to the site) factors and gives the most relevant query sites.
At present, internal factors lose their “weight” and external factors have the most pronounced effect on ranking, namely external links.
There is a whole branch of website promotion - SEO. These are the guys who, for a certain reward, arrange some “dances with a tambourine” and our site, according to the requests we need, comes out on top in the search engines. SEO know exactly what links, from what sites, with what anchor text and surroundings you need to put, so that the desired site “surfaced” in the issue.
And here we go on stage! We have a playground! With quality (conceived, user generated) content! And there are a bunch of pages! On which there are virtually no links "in the outside."

How to implement?

My experience shows that at the initial stage, the income from the sale of links can be very good and can greatly exceed the income from contextual advertising. For example, my humble blog on investment and finance is now only through links brings about $ 60 per month. Of course, this is a bit - but not a lot of kopecks =). Moreover, the links do not strain users, unlike intrusive ads.
Now question number two. It is clear why someone may need links from our site. The question is - to whom and how to sell them? I use two different link exchanges - Sape and Xap .
The first one ( Sape ) is focused on the sale of expensive links from large pages (main and secondary pages). In Sape, you can specify the price for each link sold, manually enter into sales transactions, and so on.
Xap is sharpened by the batch sale of hundreds of links from "small" pages - with a high level of nesting and low PR. In Xap, fixed prices for links (depend on CY and PR). Another difference Xap - for the sale and purchase of links inside it uses the local currency, xapa. However, this currency is easily converted into Webmoney.

Summarizing - the recipe is simple!

So, in steps:

It should be borne in mind that the external links from our site leak some of its weight - PR. Therefore, borscht with corrupt links is not worth it. In my opinion, the optimal maximum of sold links is 6-8 per page. The cost of the links depends on the parameters of our site and individual pages, which can be assessed using the pr-cy.ru service.
Guys, if you find this article useful and decide to register for the sale of links, you can do it by my affiliate links, I will be pleased to: http://www.sape.ru/r.89dbff2c23.php and http: //www.xap .ru /? p = 119562245 .
In any case, if you have any questions - knock on ICQ (137111868), I will be glad to help!
