Google will give homeless San Francisco a phone number

In the light of today's Google statement, its motto “Do not do evil” turns into the motto “Do good” that goes further. In collaboration with the authorities of San Francisco, the company is going to help homeless people in this city to "stand up". To do this, she will give everyone who wants a life-long phone number and voice mail box. And to access this number and check voice messages, a person will be able to use any telephone set. This way, the homeless person can leave a phone number to contact him, for example, when he fills out a job application. It will also allow medical institutions to report test results for this number.

“What kind of communication do you have as a homeless person?” Asks Gavin Newsom, the mayor of the city. - “Can your life suddenly change for the better, if you cannot even get some information or another person just can't contact you?”

"This is just the user's local voicemail number," said Craig Walker, senior project manager at Google. He adds: “We are deeply convinced that the power of modern technology can improve the daily lives of both individuals and entire communities, and we believe that providing the homeless with access to telephone and voice mail services is a way for Google to help them stay in touch with their families , friends, social workers, health services, and potential employers. ”

If the program proves successful in San Francisco, then it is planned to extend it to other cities of the state, and then to the whole country.
