Recently, there has been a conversation about the decline of popular social networks in the West, and that in some time it will begin in our country. At the same time, to say that the very idea of such services rests on the ceiling, I consider it wrong.
What type of interaction is going on a class type service?
Information exchange.
And the rapidly dying out - constantly asking if something new has happened - is inconvenient, tracking changes in the profiles of friends - also (especially when you have about a hundred).
How, with this in mind, could one build a social service?
- Encourage users to fill out brief information about basic areas of life:
- Letting friends see your changes and receive notifications about it. When positioning as a resource for personal communication, the problem of different levels of access to information seems relevant only in the case of several mistresses, secret children, etc. :) but it does not look unsolvable. The main thing is the idea itself.
- Actually for each update from a friend to send notifications.
- The result is a bunch of informational reasons in the mailbox, choose the taste :)
And in fact, until the end of life :) After all, people constantly have something to happen, then not only children, but also grandchildren will go ... :) - In addition, for each class / group to create their own community, where people could communicate together, and not one-on-one. And to do this by default, so that the user does not have to create a group / invite participants, as in Vkontakte. Automatic creation of communities increases their popularity.
What could be the pitfalls:
- Irregular user input updates. In theory, updates from others should be encouraged to introduce updates from oneself. If others do not have this - the resource itself may be reminded of this.
- Reluctance to receive the same demerged responses. It's like happy birthday - on the one hand, it is nice to receive congratulations, on the other - you understand that many people congratulate you just because they have a reminder, and they never would remember ...
Although, maybe, it is far-fetched ... Considering how many people watch blog entries, and how many - leave comments.
In any case, the main thing in the entire implementation will be a mass audience, and therefore it is too risky to engage in competition with Odnoklassniki. It is much easier for them to run such functionality than for someone else - to gather such an audience.

But so far, they, as if resting on their laurels, do not create anything like it. And do not rule the obvious months of shoals. But they are just trying to cope with the growth and release “Stars on classmates” ...
