China introduced its own national operating system
China National Operating System China Operating System (COS) is designed to press the market leaders Android and iOS.
In China, a new, government-approved, mobile operating system was introduced. The operating system is called China Operating System, or COS, a platform based on Linux and developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in collaboration with Liantong Network Communications Technology, located in Shanghai. This open source operating system (based on an open core) is designed to break Apple’s and Google’s monopoly on the Chinese mobile market. ')
Chinese developers claim that the new system is safer and safer than Android, and more flexible than iOS. It is assumed that it will become a major competitor to these products - for a start, in the local market.
The operating system was developed by the Institute of Software at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in conjunction with Shanghai Liantong Network Communications Technology. Reportedly, the project was approved and funded by the Chinese government.
COS is based on the open Linux kernel. However, it itself is not open “for security reasons”. Developers expect that their offspring will be free from the problems possessed by foreign operating systems. So, most foreign products cannot offer the necessary depth of localization, including a graphical interface, input methods and speech recognition. In addition, according to the engineers, COS is free from software and hardware tools for tracking user activities that can be placed into operating systems by manufacturers from other countries. This statement is particularly relevant in light of the recent scandals associated with large-scale tracking of “one and all” on the Internet by the staff of the NSA.
COS can be used on smartphones, tablets, computers and digital set-top boxes. The operating system offers access to its own application store, which currently has about 100 thousand programs.
About when it is planned to put on sale the first devices based on COS, the developers have not reported.
