Metaram has introduced a new technology for the production of memory modules. This technology, called MetaSDRAM, makes it possible to produce 8-gigabyte DRAM modules based on 1-gigabit chips, instead of the 2-gigabit chips currently used and, accordingly, reduce their cost.
By using a specially developed chipset (data flow controllers and access control microchips), which is an intermediary between DRAM chips and a memory controller, MetaSDRAM technology provides a fourfold increase in the amount of DRAM memory in DIMM modules. In addition, according to the developer, 8-gigabyte strips made using gigabit chips consume 30% less than used today.
Chipset MetaSDRAM MR08G2 (to create 8-gigabyte modules) is already in mass production. But MetaSDRAM MR16G2 is already ready, which will be used in 16-gigabyte modules. Chipset prices are set at $ 200 and $ 450, respectively (batch of 1000).
At the moment, companies like Hynix Semiconductors and SMART Modular Technologies have already reported on the use of MetaSDRAM in their products.
