Blackphone: the first smartphone, protected from listening

Specialists from the cryptographic company Silent Circle, together with Geeksphone, developed a new model of the smartphone, which was originally built in the cryptographic protection of communications, including voice conversations, text messages, files (transfer and storage in encrypted form) and video chat. Blackphone is the first mobile phone of this class.

Blackphone operates under the operating system PrivatOS, which is a security-oriented Android fork. The smartphone will not be tied to any particular telecom operator or even the manufacturer.



Recall that the staff of the company Silent Circle is a well-known cryptographer Philip Zimmermann, the creator of the PGP technology.

Reception of pre-orders for a new phone will begin on February 24, 2014. For the production and promotion of protected smartphones, Silent Circle and Geeksphone formed a joint venture registered in Switzerland.
