CoolRF: DIY-dimmer and LED-lamps, is there a friendship?
“Will your dimmer work with LED lamps?” Is one of the most frequently asked questions. For a long time we could not answer it. Today we are starting to correct. Under the cut, a story awaits you that you can buy a LED and where it is for sale, several photos and even one small (albeit not very revealing) video.
A brief introduction to the course for those who first saw our project
We are developing a complete system of smart home. The “first sign” of our system is a DIY-dimmer. Here are its main characteristics:
2.4 GHz radio channel operation (own protocol, without licensing restrictions, or ZigBee implementation based on Atmtel BitCloud)
Encrypted connection
Installation without changing the standard wiring of an ordinary apartment
Low power consumption
The usual look of switches
The possibility of independent expansion of both hardware and software functionality
Open source code of both software and hardware
')
If you want to join in the discussion of the features of the system, please read all our previous articles and comments to them. Most likely the questions after such an introduction will be much less.

This story was somehow not specifically planned and is the result of a simple walk on IKEA. In one of the New Year's mailing lists of this company, information has slipped that since the beginning of 2014 the prices for LED lamps have been changing. They say that it used to cost more than 500 rubles, you can buy already for 250. In the shop, they inquired between times that there was anything with the support of dimmers. And it turned out - there is. And not much more expensive, for only 299 rubles for a lamp with a standard E27 base. Moreover, the Swedes ask for the extra 50 rubles of prices not only for supporting rheostats, but also for increased brightness plus greater energy efficiency. This is what this affordable miracle is called:
Sold in all Russian IKEA and, according to consultants, 299 rubles is not a temporary action. Type of packaging:
Product characteristics: base E27, luminous flux 600 lumens, power consumption 10 W, color temperature 2700 Kelvin, working life 40 thousand inclusions, 25 thousand hours, diameter 60 mm, height 120 mm.
It is important not to confuse, and not to buy the same kind of lamp for 249 rubles. It is dimmable and less bright. Although it is also called - LEDARE. In addition to the lamp in question, IKEA has two more lamps for our testing. One is the same, but with clear glass. The site could not find a page with her photo and description. The second one is the usual power sparse for 399 rubles. We will also test both of these lamps soon, although the usual savings for such a price does not seem to be a profitable acquisition.
This is how the work of our dimmer with the Ikeev lamp in question looks like:
It turned out not very significant. But it is clear that nothing exploded and the light level is adjustable. There is some inertia - the lamp electronics does not instantly respond to changes in the power level. This is not critical and the lamp is most likely regulated from the usual rheostat with exactly the same delay. There are small blinks in the adjustment process. This is what we hope to correct in the serial firmware.
