The universe is infinite and flat

Scientists involved in the project - Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) measured with an accuracy of 1% of the distance between galaxies at a distance of more than six billion light years from us, which allowed them to draw conclusions about the shape of the universe.

To date, 90% of the data collected during the project has been processed, the data will be fully processed in June 2014. But even preliminary results simply cause admiration.

In this context, the flat universe is a concept from cosmological theories. I did not find a normal explanation in Russian. Therefore, here or here . And if it’s very short in Russian, then the flat Universe means that the Euclidean geometry is observed - the sum of the angles in the triangle is 180 degrees and the straight lines are parallel (apparently, it means that the parallel lines do not intersect).

Depending on the shape of our Universe, it depends on whether it will exist infinitely or collapse ever.

And although it cannot be said with complete confidence, the current results of these studies are consistent with the idea that the Universe is infinite and will expand without stopping, although it will slow the expansion rate.

The BOSS program is under the patronage of Berkeley Lab (Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) and in turn is the largest part of another program - Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-III).
