ReactOS came out on Kickstarter (but nobody knows about it)

Few people know, but ReactOS did launch a fundraiser on Kickstarter (for its commercial distribution called Thorium Core ), and it happened two weeks ago (December 23, 2013). The stated purpose of fees is $ 120,000 . At the time of this writing, 50 people donated money totaling $ 11,121 (about 9%). The campaign will last 2 months; The end date of fees is February 21, 2014.

I will not discuss or scold here the design of the project on Kickstarter , since I myself was no better . I can only say that the launch date was chosen very badly - just on the eve of the Catholic Christmas, followed by 2 weeks of the New Year holidays. At this time, most people watch the president’s congratulations on TV and sit at the holiday table, and certainly they don’t have to call on Kikstarter.

I consider the awards to be unsuccessful - there are four of them, but in fact, they all offer the same thing - a subscription to a VPS with a monthly payment: for a month, 6 months or 1 year. The price depends on the subscription period, and is $ 8.33- $ 10 per month . Something like Hetzner vServer VQ12 (as an example), but instead of Windows there will be ReactOS, and the price will be 5 times cheaper. But even the approximate configuration of the hardware that will be provided to the backers is not specified - no matter how it turns out (after successful fees) that this is a server based on Intel Atom 230 , or even 86Duino . To the question (asked at Kickstarter) what to do to those who do not need a VPS, Jeditobe replied: " You can simply donate money without choosing any reward ." Not exactly the answer I expected, to be honest. Personally, I do not need a VPS with ReactOS (as with Windows), but I would gladly give $ 25 for a USB flash drive with a ReactOS logo and installed on a ReactOS live distribution flash drive. The KolibriOS experience on Kickstarter shows that such an award is in demand. I personally donated $ 12 for a 1-month subscription, but to give more for an absolutely unnecessary reward is somehow “dumb”, and donating money without any reward at all is not necessary for this Kickstarter, I could donate it immediately on the ReactOS website .

However, everything said above is just flowers compared to what I’ll say now: the launch of the project on Kickstarter for 2 weeks (up to January 6) was not told on the official website www.reactos.org . It's just some kind of facepalm - how can you raise money if you don’t tell anyone about this? image Now, however, they have corrected this terrible mistake, and have released news and a press release . But, in my opinion, it is too late - you need to write such news on the day of launch of the project, and even better - in the first hours after launch, then the effect will be maximum.
