McAfee Antivirus will change its name to Intel Security
Today, at CES, Intel CEO Brian Krzhanich announced that the McAfee brand will be replaced by Intel Security, writes The Next Web. The new brand will be used for all Intel security products and services.
The rebranding is probably connected with an attempt to distance itself from the odious McAfee creator John McAfee, who responded to the news like this: “I will now be eternally grateful to Intel for freeing me from this terrible association with the worst program on the planet. These are not my words, these are the words of millions of angry users. My enthusiasm for Intel’s decision cannot be put into words. ”
McAfee’s reaction should not come as a surprise. Last year, he released a video showing how to “remove” the antivirus that bears his name — a shot at a laptop from a pistol:

Rebranding will begin immediately, but the entire transition will take about a year. According to Krzhanich, this process will occur as new products are released. This probably means that each product will move to the name of Intel Security with the release of a new version of this product.
The current Intel logo does not plan to completely abandon - as they say in the company, a red shield representing the "core values of security and protection" will be preserved.
At the same time, McAfee itself will continue to operate as a separate subsidiary. Intel acquired it in August 2010 for $ 7.7 billion, at $ 48 per share, 60% higher than their market price.
Krzhanich also announced plans to offer free McAfee security solutions for mobile devices. This includes its solutions for protecting data and devices on iOS and Android. Details he promised to announce in the coming months.
