CES 2014: First look at the mini-flagship Sony Xperia Z1 Compact (+ video)

It happened in the world of smartphones that they first released the flagship shovel, and after a couple of months under the same name with the prefix “mini” and in the same design - a small, tiny budget model. Sony went a little different way: at CES 2014, the Japanese showed the Xperia Z1 Compact, which is smaller in size, but completely repeats the older model stuffed. I managed to briefly turn the Z1 Compact in my hands and make a small video, and now I hasten to share my first impressions with you.


Immediately it is worth making a reservation that the presentation at CES is just a world announcement. But in fact, the smartphone has been sold in Japan for several months and is called Xperia Z1 f there. And, they say, well sold. But the West sees him for the first time, so there is a reason for the story.

So, the Z1 Compact is built on the same platform as the “regular” Z1: Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.2 GHz, Adreno 330, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB flash, camera of 20.7 megapixels. All the same, no loosening for the miniflagman. The design is also the same, only the SIM card slot has moved to the opposite end. The front and rear panels are covered with tempered glass, but they don’t say how much. More precisely, there may be several options, because it may / will differ from party to party, so officially it's just “tempered glass”.



The screen here, of course, is smaller - 4.3 inches versus 5 inches of the original, plus a resolution of 720x1280 instead of 1080x1920. But, firstly, with the Z1 Compact, you can work in gloves, and secondly, there was a manual setting of white balance. That is, if suddenly it seems to you that your screen is yellow, then you can twist, twist, and then it will turn green.



Dust and water tightness in place, Z1 Compact corresponds to IP55 (this is when it is tight jet) and IP58 (this is when it is drowned for half an hour and a half meters). Audio output without a stub, but also protected, you just need to let it dry or blow it.



The battery has decreased from 3000 mAh to 2300 mAh. This is a minus. But the weight dropped from 170 g to 135 g. This is a plus. The thickness has slightly grown, so the magnetic cradles from the Z1 compact will not work.



Well, personal feelings. If you forget that the devil come the times when the mini-smartphone is 4.3 inches, then the device is really very compact, but still solid. It is placed in the same hand - oh, this is a forgotten feeling. Slightly spoils the impression of thickness - almost a centimeter. A pluckiness bulges out.

On sale Z1 Compact will appear in February. They also do not speak about the price, but in Japan it costs a little more than $ 700, and therefore we can assume that our price tag will be at the level of thousands since 24.
