The Mars One organization has filtered the list of candidates who expressed their desire to fly to Mars and establish the first human colony there. Of the more than 200 thousand candidates in the list now there are only 1058 people . The lucky ones are 586 men and 472 women. The most candidates are from the USA (297), Canada (75), India (62) and Russia (52). After several years of training, a team of six people will be selected, which will be sent to Mars in 2025-2026. Unless, of course, everything goes well and manages to build a spaceship and solve other technical problems.
Future Martians have a good education: 347 bachelors, 159 masters and 29 doctors of medical sciences. The absolute majority are employed (813), although 164 are still studying. Now the program participants will have to undergo a medical examination and several new stages of selection, including physical and psychological tests. The doctor must select a team of men and women who can cooperate normally: after all, they have to live together for a very long time. ')
The founder of the Mars One program is the Dutch entrepreneur Bas Lansdorp, who hopes to raise $ 6 billion in the project budget. This should be enough to build and launch the ship "one way". The money must come from advertisers: each step of the program and participants will be filmed on video. Bass Landdorp seriously hopes for success, and as an example he leads the Olympic Games: in four weeks of competition, he manages to sell advertising for $ 4 billion, and this is because the whole world is watching TV broadcasts. Landsdorp wants to turn Mars One into the greatest TV show in human history. Many companies will want to be involved in a historic event.
In addition, the creative entrepreneur came up with other ways to monetize: for example, each of the 200 thousand candidates for the flight to Mars paid an entrance fee of several tens of dollars. There is a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo . A wide sale of merchandise and souvenirs with the symbols of the project is planned. It is not surprising that such an approach confuses some experts.
The selection stage for candidates will also be widely publicized on television with the organization of voting among viewers, while rejected candidates will still have the opportunity to re-submit an application.
