Intel’s plans for accepting an increasingly multi-core chip are not a secret. A confirmation of this is the recent announcement of
Skulltrail , a platform for enthusiasts, and now also 6-core Dunnington processors, which will be released in the third quarter of 2008.
In fact, Dunnington, with which Intel thinks to earn extra money before the appearance of Nehalem (perhaps, Intel insures against Nehalem delays in advance) - these are three Penryn dual-core processors in one package. With the corresponding L2-cache (3 to 3 MB) and the total L3-cache (16 MB).
The frequencies at which the chips of the new family will work have not yet been named. But TDP (
Thermal Design Power ) is known, which Intel is now “screwing” wherever possible. It will be from 60 to 130 watts. In addition, Dunnington will be one of the first Intel chips, made by 45-nm manufacturing technology.
