In 2014, the microservice segment will grow by 139%

Microservers are a promising segment of inexpensive and energy efficient compact servers. They will soon be in demand in industries where there is no need for large computing power. Also, they are going to be used in data centers of the new architecture: miniature microservers are planned to be combined into dense clusters. If you believe analysts from IC Insights , in the near future, representatives of this segment will "steer" in the server markets all over the world.

In the past two years, the server market has been febrile because of falling prices and the general weakness of the global economy. However, IC Insights promises that the situation will soon improve and in the next three years the market will grow by leaps and bounds. According to experts, the global income in 2014 will grow by three percent and will reach 54.6 billion dollars. In 2015 and 2016 the market will grow even more actively, but in 2017 an economic recession is expected again, and we will have to tighten our belts again.

Revenues from server sales in 2013 accounted for 13% of total sales of computing systems. Experts believe that in 2012-2017. sales volumes will grow every year by an average of 1.5%.

However, the key role is played by the microserver segment. They are extremely effective for solving a large number of simple computational problems, for example, for servicing mobile applications or web pages. They can also be successfully used to serve a wide range of applications in data centers and cloud services. Given the boom these industries are experiencing now, there is no doubt about the commercial success of microservers.

In IC Insights, it is estimated that microserver sales in 2014 will grow by 139% from $ 243 million in 2013 to 580 million in 2014. It is expected that from 2012 to 2017, sales will grow by an average of 72% in a year and by 2017 it will reach 1.2 billion dollars.

Not so long ago it became known that the manufacturer of Calxeda microservers from Australia was closed. However, Calxeda is unlikely to close - this is slowing down the market. Rather, it is worthwhile to regard this as a consequence of the cruelest tenure, since many companies work on the development of microservers and chipsets for them day and night, including such monsters as Intel, Nvidia, Samsung and Marvell Technology.
