Canonical released a preview of the Ubuntu Touch dual boot for smartphones

Canonical has released a test version of Ubuntu Touch, its OS for mobile devices, back in February of this year. Since then, the system is constantly being updated and improved, almost every day something new appears. In general, everything is fine, but until now the desire to try out the new OS was a problem - to use Ubuntu on your phone, you had to be ready to replace Android with Ubuntu Touch.

Now this problem is resolved - the company has released a preview of the Ubuntu dual boot, another test version that already allows you to run both Android and Ubuntu on one device. Developers indicate that this distribution is intended for developers, and not for ordinary users. However, software installation is not very complicated, and is available to almost everyone. True, this “every person” should still be at least a little familiar with installing custom firmware, OS unlock and other similar operations.

For everyone there is an installation guide . It is worth reading this manual carefully, since it’s still about installing a still damp OS on a mobile device. Well, if you are not afraid of anything, then here is the installer . By the way, if your device is Android 4.4, you need to install an older version of the radio module in order to make calls from Ubuntu.

If everything went well, then in each of the OS you will see an application that allows you to switch to another operating system. Currently, official support for Google Nexus 4 with Android 4.2, but on other devices of the Nexus lineup, the distribution should work.
