Any population is stable only then is quite diverse in its internal structure. For example, wheat fields are a monocultural system; in natural conditions wheat is not found in such a density. As a result, any pest instantly causes a massive death of such a population, if not to make great efforts to preserve the system.
Monosystem - unstable. Any external factor can unbalance it. Return to the point of balance can only be spent a lot of effort.

Natural meadow - just the opposite situation. It is characterized by a significant diversity of species, the most complex relationships between populations that make up a single whole. When exposed to a negative factor (pest invasion, disease outbreak, etc.), natural compensation mechanisms are triggered, negative feedbacks are activated, which returns the system to the equilibrium point.
Mixed systems formed naturally are stable. Return to the point of equilibrium occurs by the forces of the system itself.

What does this have to do with Habrahabr?

Any person familiar with the project for a long time comes to the idea of ​​the uniqueness of its ecosystem. In discussions, opinions and expert assessments of so different directions collide, that one involuntarily thinks: “And what brings so many dissimilar people together?”. Habr is a self-regulating system, variegated as a quilt, but at the same time integral and unified. In its structure, it is exactly like a natural ecosystem, hardened in the crucible of natural selection. It is this quality that distinguishes it from the artificially created “circles of interest”, which crumble as soon as the moderators weaken control. He himself balances around the equilibrium point, giving rise at the junction of specialties, interests and hobbies of his members new ideas and unusual concepts.

I suddenly wondered if there were any “clean” IT specialists among us. In the topic about 3D printing on the base of the welding machine , it suddenly turns out that among us there are professional welders, people who have their own forge, heads of chemical plants. If we talk about myself, then I am a professional doctor who graduated from a university, internship and residency. With all this, IT has become for me something much more than a simple hobby. Linux, 3D-design, administration of small networks - all this is in the circle of my interests. Almost each of us is a strange fusion of completely incompatible, at first glance, interests. This is what makes our community so flexible and adaptive.
