Roofs, water and iron pipes - Nokia Lumia 1020 in the hands of photoextreme
Hi, Habr! Today we want to tell you about one of our special projects, which is truly breathtaking. Therefore, remove from your screens women, children and especially impressionable people.
The fact is that we gave our 41-megapixel Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphones to the real masters of epic photography, to photographers with a developed sense of beauty, to people with nerves of steel and everything else - well-known driver Vitaly Raskalov, a no less famous photographer and blogger Dmitry Chistoprudov, as well as diver and underwater hunter Oleg Gavrilin. What came out of it, look under the cut.

We managed to talk a bit with Dmitry and Vitaly, ask them about the shooting, the roofs, the new technologies and much more. But first, a little about the authors themselves pictures.
Vitaly Raskalov is an extreme, rufer, recently recognized as one of the 25 best photo bloggers by the Russian Photo portal. However, Vitaly himself says that he does not want to be remembered as a photographer. Although it is difficult to deny his creative potential, especially given the fact that Vitali constantly walks on the razor's edge, conquering the height without permission and insurance. The main tool for shooting is the Canon 40D digital SLR.

Dmitry Chistoprudov - photographer, traveler, blog author and co-founder of the photo agency "28-300" (founded in 2009 with Ilya Varlamov ). Dmitry specializes in architectural photography, aerial photography, roof shooting and production reporting. People and animals, in his own words, interest Dmitri much less. Dmitry is a car designer by training. He made a long way into professional photography, working as a designer in the watch and construction companies, working in printing, websites and advertising, as well as three-dimensional graphics.

Oleg Gavrilin is a freediving and underwater hunting instructor, one of the leading trophy underwater hunters in Russia, team captain and participant in the European and underwater hunting championships.
What exciting, interesting, and maybe fun moments were on the set?Perhaps while shooting on our smartphone?
Dmitry: The phone has always been of interest to colleagues when I started shooting at it. At first they celebrated his stylish design, and when I shot dimly lit scenes with them, the result was amazing. This was due to the fact that in the live view on the phone screen, almost nothing was visible (it was on the Royal Square in Barcelona). But after 4 seconds of shooting, the city "manifested" on the screen, and behind the back was heard the many-voiced "wow."

I have two tripods: one easy option for traveling, and the other - armor-piercing, wind-resistant, which weighs 5 kg. When I was shooting in the subway from this tripod to Nokia, the phone itself was hardly visible against the background of this colossus. It looked funny. Many late passengers viewed with curiosity a cunning device for shooting.

Vitaliy: There were a lot of interesting and amusing events in my life related to Rufers, I think it will take quite a few hours to list at least half of them. Most occurred in different parts of the world. For example, my friends and I were held at gunpoint by police in Turkey on the roof of the Grand Bazaar, and on another occasion we were buying off the militarized guards in Cairo.

Dmitry, how do you manage to penetrate the subway tunnels or, for example, into the areas of the Ostankino tower that are closed for ordinary visitors?
Dmitry: I tried for a very long time to coordinate shooting in the tower and in the subway tunnels. For the first time I officially went up to the open balcony of the Ostankino television tower, having concluded an agreement and paid 36,000 rubles for two hours of shooting. Then he showed the result of shooting the local press service, and since then we are friends. For me, the "green light" is burning to any level in exchange for good photos of Moscow. Barter.

With the subway, the story is different: there is a colleague, a wonderful photographer Alexander Popov , who sometimes takes me with him. Just because the shooting in the subway tunnels is almost impossible to get. At least for free.

Describe your set of daily gadgets.
Dmitry: iPhone 4S, Nokia Lumia 1020 and Wrist Watch
Vitali: iPhone 5 and Casio watches.
Did you like the Nokia Lumia 1020 as a phone and as a replacement for the camera?
Dmitry: Yes, now I always have two phones with me.
photo: Dmitry Chistoprudov
Vitali: I didn’t use the device as a phone or device, but replacing the camera is yes. If in the future it will be possible to embed support for RAW-files and interchangeable lenses, then I would go on some trips or outings exclusively with this phone-camera.

In your opinion, can it (Nokia Lumia 1020) replace a professional camera or, for example, be used as a specialized device?
Vitali: With good processing skills and support for RAW files, it can easily compete with amateur DSLRs.

Dmitry: After a long shoot in Spain, I had a couple of free hours for walking around the old city. I left the heavy cameras in the room and went for a walk with the iPhone and Nokia. Though I could see the city. "IPhone" in the end did not reach.

Professional camera Lumia 1020 is no substitute, and many inexpensive soap dishes on the totality of the parameters of compactness and quality - the nose wipe easily.
What do you think about the Nokia Copter project , would you like to build yourself the same to take pictures and videos from the roofs, so to speak, from a third person?
Vitaliy: If I decide to assemble such a “kopter,” then, no offense, it will consist of several GoPro cameras. Firstly, they are several times cheaper, it will not be a pity and break. Secondly, the viewing angle and the quality of shooting they have are optimal for aerial shooting.
Dmitry: I am neutral. Perhaps due to the fact that many times he has shot various panoramas from the air together with the AirPano team and this does not surprise me anymore. We once adapted my Nokia to a hexacter, but because of small vibrations, a “jelly” appeared. Oddly enough, it is better here that the device could disable optical stabilization. While GoPro for such purposes is more suitable.
Where, in your opinion, is the entire mobile industry moving: towards unification of all devices into one universal type or, conversely, towards narrow specialization? What do you think, will there ever be a smartphone for rufer?
Dmitry: A smartphone for rufer is unlikely. Well traced the line of development of mobile devices. At first, everyone tried to make the devices smaller and thinner. Then the touch screen appeared, and the fashion went back to the side of increasing sizes. Today there are phones that hardly fit in the palm of your hand, and the function of cellular communication has not been a top priority for a long time. Today they are handheld computers-TVs that can take pictures and make calls. Unification or narrow specialization? Rather, the first option.

What impresses you most in the modern technological world?
Vitali: Easy access to information.

Dmitry: No matter how trite it may sound, the ability to synchronize devices. Now I am writing this letter to you from a computer, and the two phones already contain drafts stored on this phrase.
