Qualcomm is gradually moving from a number of suppliers to competitors, yesterday it announced the launch of its transmitter Gimbal, which operates on the principle of Apple's iBeacon technology. Gimbal transmitters are physical access points that can communicate with devices using Bluetooth LE technology and interact with applications installed on devices.
In particular, the Gimbal platform serves to provide contextual advertising, which enables retailers to inform customers based on their physical position.
Gimbal also supports iOS out of the box and is accompanied by an SDK for embedding in applications.
With iOS support, the end user will not be able to distinguish Gimbal from iBeacon so we have an alternative to Apple’s technology. But devices of the apple company can be initially configured to use native technology and ignore other devices.
