NGO Alpha Smart Systems announced the first "home" robot
Curious news from the world of robotics fell on my mail. NGO Alpha Smart Systems, which is headed by Russian engineer (and designer) Vladimir Bely, announced the release of the "androids" (i.e., robots) of the Alphabot series. The use of robots in industry will not surprise anyone, but their operation in a purely domestic sphere (home, office, maintenance of people) is somehow not very developed. That is, if my home robot can cut a carrot, put a 25 kg dumbbell back into place after a workout, or bring slippers - that sounds, ahem, somewhat fantastic. Namely, such tasks can also be performed by Alphabot.
In general, I would like to give the guys a scolding for the press release, because besides the very fact of the announcement, there is almost no useful information in the text - I had to dig everything myself. First, about the timing. When exactly the robots will be to purchase is not specified. But, on the other hand, I dug up Vladimir’s February statement that by the end of this year it is planned to “produce the first small batch”. So, in the worst case, in the area of the beginning of the first quarter of 2014, robots, most likely, can be “felt”. ')
Now directly about the models. There is a base unit (platform) called TORSO. The name speaks for itself, it is a torso with arms and head.
Further modifications follow - the lower part on the chassis (i.e., obstacles such as stairs cannot be overcome) or on the legs. The description includes options with legs: standing ("not walking"), moving linearly (only in a straight line? Linear movement), and a full-featured walking robot. On the contrary, "TORSO only" costs € 100k, and for the maximum walking package will have to pay one million euros. However, it is not a fact that the figures I quoted are the final ones. In my opinion, the prices are very real for people with high incomes to buy.
As far as I understand, an extensive robot rental program is envisaged. In any case, it is stated that the price of renting a single copy is equivalent to the monthly salary of the worker, whom the robot will replace. In general, the creators themselves see the Alphabot concept as follows: “Alphabot is proposed to be used for dangerous or monotonous work that we, biological objects, do not like to do, and which probably does not bring us anything in terms of physical and mental development, but only takes away precious time".
I think that users of Habrahabr have no particular problems with at least basic English, so I will allow myself to bring myself a couple of slides with lists of possible tasks to be performed without complete translation.
In general, the list is impressive if the robot can actually perform all of the indicated operations. Alas, from visual videos while available only a demonstration of the degrees of freedom of the elements of the robot.
About the characteristics. Again, here are the slides with complete information, but for now I’ll voice the most interesting moments from my point of view. The stated battery life is up to 8 hours, a 10 A battery is present, charging can be done from a regular outlet. Depending on the tasks, it is possible to install a processor with frequencies from 800 MHz to 7.3 GHz. RAM - 4 GB, there is a sound card, four USB 3.0 connectors. Wi-Fi, LTE, 3G, and Ethernet networks are supported. The robot remote control program is available on Mac OS, Windows, iOS, Android and Linux. Windows Phone is out of work. There is a microphone, camera, 3D-scanner, under fifty of all kinds of sensors. By default, the robot recognizes and speaks Russian and English, optionally, other languages can be supported.
The speed of movement reaches 25 km / h regardless of the platform (feet or chassis). A dynamic energy saving system is used, which automatically realizes the energy consumption in the best way in real time. “Dynamic” also applies to the balance of the robot, it is stated that the Alphabot never falls.
PS In the not entirely clear news context, the Human reader system is mentioned, which is necessary for “recognizing a person’s psycho-type, his emotions and psycho-physical state”. The development forms a person's profile by analyzing the movement of the pupils, the contraction of the facial muscles, in general, non-verbal and verbal information. This should be useful as a minimum to personnel managers and employees of credit departments. Already there was an announcement of the program for Windows Phone, iOS, Mac OS and Android.
PPS And for some reason I remembered the story of Isaac Asimov “Best Friend”, where the boy from the future was upset when they were going to give a live puppy instead of Robachon, his current robot dog. And the father somehow didn’t have much success in explaining to the child how a live dog is better than a perfected robot.
