Toshiba buried HD DVD

On Tuesday morning, Toshiba officially announced the termination of further development and promotion of its high-definition HD DVD video format, as well as players and media for it. Production and sale of players and carriers to retailers will gradually cease by the end of March. However, technical support for users who have already purchased HD DVD equipment, as well as work with partners who will continue to show interest in technology, will continue.

The company's refusal to further fight Sony's rival Blu-Ray format, Toshiba executive director Atsutoshi Nishida (Atsutoshi Nishida) explained it with “changes in the market”, but he has no doubt about the bright future of high-definition video.

The achievements made by the consortium members in the process of creating HD DVDs (content providers and IT companies, including Microsoft, Intel and HP) will be actively used in their future products.
