New Google and Andy Rubin frontier: robots

Google revealed that the company is working on the creation of next-generation robots. Behind the project, we are all aware of Andy Rubin, the creator of Android. While it is said that Google robots will not be designed for ordinary people, companies will be the main customers - for example, they can be used in electronics assembling and in retail sales. A global vision is to free a person from repetitive and boring tasks.

Rubin told the New York Times that the project should be viewed in a ten-year term, almost like a moon race or any other big project. “Robotic unmanned vehicles were science fiction when we started working on them, and now they are almost ready for use,” he says. Currently, Google is not particularly advertising has already acquired seven companies in the US and Japan, engaged in the creation of mobile robotics. Rubin notes that in the field of software and sensors, we still need breakthrough research, but the problems of iron, like the creation of hand and wrist mechanisms, have already been solved.

For now, Google’s robotic group will be based in Palo Alto, with a branch in Japan. Rubin began to hire engineers and will attract company programmers to work on projects (by the way, Rubin himself began his career from robots, to Apple, where he was involved in production, he was an engineer at Carl Zeiss).

Larry Page: “Android started with a crazy idea, and now he has given supercomputers to hundreds of millions of people. It is too early to say anything about the new project, but I can't wait to see the first results. ”
