Wonderful resurrection SCO

SCO logo Last Thursday, all OpenSource supporters around the world had an excellent reason to wonder once again about the wickedness of Evil, the embodiment of which for many of them was the American company SCO. For many years she led protracted trials with almost all the white light, trying to prove to him that she owns the rights to the source code of the Unix System V OS and the SCO UnixWare OS based on it. Moreover, relying on this confidence, the company demanded licensing fees from corporate Linux users, since its core allegedly contains components borrowed from Unix. As a result, being shattered in court in tatters, SCO announced poor financial results and began a reorganization procedure, which, according to US law, allows us to avoid bankruptcy. However, she obviously did not have enough funds to carry it out. But now, apparently money is enough.

The investment company Steve Norris Partners , in cooperation with “partners from the Middle East,” allocated a sum of up to $ 100 million to the company. This money is likely to be used to pay legal costs to Novell and other SCO debts, as well as to release a “new product line, intended for customers in the global market. ”

Remembering the company's “drying out” of the Unix business for a quarter in the past year, it would be logical to think about whether investors have gone crazy. SCO itself did not hide the reasons for its failures, explaining them by the general fall in demand for Unix-systems in the market. How she plans to raise this demand to the level necessary for at least break-even work remains a mystery. However, the optimism contained in the restructuring business plan seemed to be enough to convince Steve Norris, co-founder of one of the largest and most influential financial holdings in the world - the Carlyle Group , which is often called the "family business" of the Bush dynasty.

Well, it remains only to wish good luck to SCO, in the hope that her defeat taught her something. In the end, no one is immune from mistakes.
