BIND performance test on different OS

Internet Systems Consortium has tested the performance of the BIND DNS server on different OSs. Honestly, the results struck me - I did not expect such a spread.

OSQueries / second
Linux Gentoo 2.6.20.793,000
Linux Fedora Core 2.6.20.787,000
FreeBSD-7-CURRENT 20070884,000
FreeBSD-6-stable 20070855,000
FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE51,000
Solaris-10 DevelExpr 5/0750,000
NetBSD-4.0-Beta 20070842,000
OpenBSD 4.1-snap-2007042735,000
Windows 2003 Server22,000
Windows XP Pro64 5.2.3790 SP220,000

PS By the way, I personally recommend using djbdns as a DNS server, not BIND - for security reasons, although I’m sure that it also outperforms BIND in performance (I tested it many years ago and I don’t think the situation has changed).
