Amazon announced the delivery of goods by robots (video)
More precisely, hexacopters. Jeff Bezos introduced a new way to deliver goods to the buyer in 30 minutes Amazon Prime Air . Delivery using automated hexacopters.
The idea is not new, but in this case a few things pleases. First, that a company of this level is engaged in promising developments. Secondly, the decision looks quite complex and complete, which means that the future is really here. Let's look at the video:
Automatic acceptance of goods, automatic loading, automatic delivery, automatic return to the base - a complete set of what you need.
Amazon plans to use copters for delivery only in the distant 2015, although with what to pull here - it is not clear (except with the battery). It would be quite possible to get permission to fly in any particular city, where it is the easiest to do this and to thoroughly test the system in real conditions. Then, Amazon would become the most futuristic and innovative company in the world - is it a joke, robo-birds in the service of people! This is not to collect telephones with robo-hands! ')
In Russia, the guys also relatively recently announced a delivery service using copters: www.copterexpress.ru Although the site made a lot of noise, it is most likely just a landing page - there is no service there. Naturally, no one gave them permission to fly over Moscow. But moreover, when I contacted them to demonstrate their creations on TV, they could not find a copter ...
Well, it is clear how much they (or not them) homemade differs from the creation of Amazon: Manual loading, manual unloading ... well, if it flies by itself. Completely unfinished and ill-conceived decision.
I believe that the technologies of the future are not some ephemeral ideas or fantastic drawings of teleportors, real technologies are well thought out, ready (or almost ready) devices for use that are ahead of their time and significantly improve (simplify) people's lives. I am sure that Amazon managed to create a kopter (even the whole system) of the future. I hope we will see it in action before 2015.
