Indian Martian probe directed towards Mars

On November 5, the Indian Margian probe Mangalyaan was launched . According to the plan, all this time the probe was in terrestrial orbit, and only today headed towards Mars. At a certain stage, the apparatus had difficulties - the engine did not work for the necessary time, giving only 27% of the required impulse. However, after a day, the Indians re-enabled, correcting the situation. This time the engine worked according to plan, and the probe left the Earth's orbit. The delay due to this failure was 1 day, so we can assume that everything went smoothly.

It is worth noting that if “Mangalyan” gets to Mars (and there are all the prerequisites for this), then India will become the third country that could send a spacecraft to this planet. First, only Russia and the United States carried out similar missions.

The Indians chose an interesting way to launch the "Mangalliana", breaking the flight of the vehicle into several stages, so that the device would increase the maximum orbit altitude to 215 thousand kilometers. Such a maneuver saved a significant amount of fuel. In total, the flight to Mars should take about 10 months. Arrival at the place is scheduled for September 24, 2014.

Mangalyaan will not descend to the surface of Mars, but will circle around the planet in a stationary orbit. The device will map the surface of Mars, study the climate of this planet, and search for traces of methane. Of course, Mangalyaan is also a kind of application from India for a place in the study of Mars.
