Scientists from the University of Michigan created a laser with a power of 300 terawatts. The radiation is concentrated at a point with a diameter of 1.3 microns, which gives 20 billion trillion watts per square centimeter. The impulse lasts 30 femtoseconds (10 -15 s).
According to Karl Krushelnik, one of the creators of the laser, this is comparable to concentrating all the energy that the Earth receives from the Sun, on a spot the size of a grain of sand.
