[Translation] CyanogenMod Installer application removed from Play Store

Today, Google Play tech support has informed us that our CyanogenMod Installer application violates the terms of the Google Play contract.

We were advised to voluntarily remove the application, or they would be forced to remove it administratively. We have satisfied their demands, meanwhile we are waiting for a more favorable resolution of the situation.

For those who are not familiar with the application, it has only one function - to send users to activate “ADB” (a built-in development and debugging tool), and then to the desktop installer, which in turn installs CyanogenMod on an Android device.

When we got to Play Store technical support, we received the answer that the application itself was not to blame for anything, but since it “encourages users to void the manufacturer’s warranty”, they will not allow it to remain in the application store.

We observed hundreds of thousands of installations that confirm the demand for the expansion of the range and that the need for alternative versions of the Android OS is taking place. Overcoming this new obstacle, we will continue to make available and support the installation process through our own hosting services.

Fortunately, Android is open enough to allow devices to install applications via “unknown sources” (sideload). Although it is troublesome and adds steps to the process, it allows us to move forward beyond the limits of the Play Store itself.

You can find the app at the Get Started link on CyanogenMod.org. In addition to the sideloader, we sent the application for review in Amazon and the Samsung app-store.
