Often, the image on the tablet with a screen diagonal of 7 inches is somewhat small. Going to meet your wishes, ASUS has released a mini-tablet with an 8-inch screen, which is one of the best compromises between smartphones and full-sized tablets. On the one hand, they are much more compact than their “senior brethren”, while the 8-inch screen is much more informative than the 7-inch screen. Today I present to you a wonderful sample of the mini-tablet, ASUS MeMO Pad 8 (ME180A).

Equipment
There are no surprises here, like all other devices in the ASUS MeMO line, this tablet comes only with a very compact charger, a USB cable (which also functions as a charging cable) and a simple plastic stand.
Appearance
Of the three color options, gloss white, dark pink and dark gray, a white version was provided for testing. And white is not only the body, but also the edging of the screen. The body is made of a smooth, almost glossy hard plastic, and not just white, but with a “sparkle”, it is all faintly flickering in the light. By the way, the color of the border of the screen is slightly darker in tone than the body itself. Along the perimeter of the tablet is a narrow aluminum frame echoing the silver logo of ASUS.
The tablet design has a vertical “smartphone” orientation, since it is assumed that it will be held with one hand.
On the back side is the main camera lens, slightly protruding above the surface of the body. At the opposite edge is the speaker grille.
At the top there are a microUSB connector, an audio jack and a microphone hole.
On the left side there is only a microSD connector.
On the right side there is a power button and a “rocker” for adjusting the sound level.
Screen
Excellent screen on IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1216 * 800 pixels has a viewing angle of 178 degrees. With a diagonal of 8 inches at this resolution there is almost no noticeable pixel gradation of the image.
Sound
As before, SonicMaster technology allows ASUS laptops and tablets to sound very impressive. The volume level, surprisingly, also turned out to be quite high, so this mini-tablet can be used as a source of background music at a company of friends meeting.
Cameras
The purpose of the front camera is to turn the tablet into a mirror for its charming owner, or to broadcast video calls via Skype. That is, just to show. But the main camera gives a much better image with low noise and great videos.
Software
With the tablet, the manufacturer delivers a number of additional programs, such as ASUS Audio Wizard, ASUS Gallery, SuperNote, My Library, etc. Like all other devices in the MeMO Pad lineup, this tablet also has a pop-up panel with several useful utilities that do not require an exit from full-screen applications. This panel opens when you click the button located on the left in the main virtual panel of the operating system.
Performance
Below are the results of two benchmarks.
AnTuTu:
Quadrant Benchmark:
Duration of work
Surfing the Internet via WiFi, with periodic video views on Youtube and listening to background music, with an average screen brightness: 12 hours and 25 minutes.
Watching HD movies (1280 * 720): 10 hours and 45 minutes.
Full battery charging time: 5 hours and 20 minutes.
Conclusion
Due to its compactness, ASUS MeMO Pad 8 is much easier to fit not only into bulky men's bags, but also into small women's bags. In other words, this is the best form factor for a tablet that you can carry with you every day without any discomfort. This mini-tablet is much more convenient to hold in the hands of public transport, it even fits in some pockets of outerwear. This is a much more mobile tablet than a full-sized 10-inch. Therefore, if you spend a lot of time on the road, or you don’t have so much free space in your bag, then such a tablet will become a much more profitable option than a 10-inch one.
