Apple buys PrimeSense - developer of 3D sensors Kinect
AllThingsDigital reports that Apple is completing the acquisition of PrimeSense, an Israeli startup specializing in the development of three-dimensional sensors. The cost of the transaction is not exactly reported, journalists write about an approximate amount of $ 360 million.
For the first time, PrimeSense’s sale began in the beginning of the year, and now the information has been officially confirmed. An Apple representative officially confirmed the purchase transaction, saying that Apple acquires small technology companies from time to time and sees no reason to discuss this particular purchase in detail. Meanwhile, PrimeSense is quite well known in the market as a manufacturer of a 3D sensor used in the first Kinect. Microsoft said it plans to abandon PrimeSense services in developing the next versions of Kinect, and therefore the company PrimeSense experienced some difficulties. Apparently, this was the main impetus for the deal with Apple.
According to some reports, Apple plans to use PrimeSense technology in the development of Apple TV and "smart watches." This summer, PrimeSense presented an informative video demonstrating the future of 3D sensors and how to use them: ')
