Toshiba bury HD DVD?

Hollywood is full of rumors about the imminent end of the war in high-definition video formats. Against the background of the growing superiority of Blu-Ray, sources at Toshiba claim that the parent company of the HD DVD group will soon give up the fight and curtail production of players and carriers. However, the official position of the company is still the same: HD DVD has a number of obvious technological advantages, and the format promotion policy is very attractive for consumers, so there is no reason for panic.

But there are plenty of reasons for concern: in January, one of the largest filmmakers, Warner Bros, refused to support HD DVD, Paramount used to go to the Blu-Ray camp. And after him, more and more studios are more modestly announcing their desire to support both formats, refusing HD-DVD exclusive contracts.

The silence on the part of other members of the concern is especially alarming. Microsoft, which has put a lot of effort into promoting the format in the press, in recent weeks has not said anything intelligible about its future. Toshiba itself, after the Warner Bros demarche, turned its HD DVD exposition at the Consumer Electronics Show, which is difficult to call as a retreat.
