The next chapter in the judicial confrontation between Samsung and Apple was completed - on Thursday, the court announced that Samsung Electronics would have to pay Apple, another $ 290 million in compensation for patent infringement, ending the next chapter in the lengthy patent disputes between the two companies.
The court calculated the damage on the basis of 13 products in which Apple patents were infringed. The two smartphones that brought the greatest loss were identified: Samsung Infuse 4G, approximately $ 100 million, and Droid Charge, approximately $ 60 million.
In August last year, a California jury awarded Apple $ 1 billion in damages. Judge Koch (due to uncertainty in calculating the amount of damage) lowered the amount to $ 600 million. that Samsung would have to pay if it honestly bought the right to use patents from Apple. It is more difficult to consider the lost profit (in essence, there are simply no clear criteria that can determine it, based on actual sales), and the amounts there can accumulate much larger. This time the court decided to add a little to the amount of damage.
Despite the fact that the amount of $ 290 million will not have a significant impact on the "wallets" of companies - they are one of the most profitable companies in the high-tech industry - this gives Apple another victory in the ongoing legal battle between the companies.

Apple said in a statement that the case "was about innovation and hard work of creating products that people love." And added: "We are thankful to the court for explaining to Samsung that copying has its price."
