On the crowdfunding site Indiegogo, a fundraising for a very useful gadget AIRTAME has begun - a WiFi-HDMI converter that allows you to connect a TV / monitor / laptop via HDMI, only wirelessly.
The device is similar to Google Chromecast, but the possibilities of AIRTAME are much wider (more details under the cat). ')
With AIRTAME, you can broadcast a picture from any computer to any screen. In the menu, simply choose which screen in which room to launch the wireless broadcast on.
AIRTAME can work not only in the duplicate picture mode, but also in the "second screen" mode, that is, some windows from the computer can be transferred to the TV. For example, start a movie there, and continue to work on the main screen yourself.
In the end, there is support for simultaneous broadcast on multiple screens. This feature can be useful during a presentation in front of an audience who sit with laptops. For example, at a conference or during a lecture at a university. The screen is broadcast from one laptop to the others (in a separate window), regardless of the operating system - Windows, Linux, Mac. The above features are missing from Google Chromecast.
The Danish engineers who are working on this project have already made a working AIRTAME prototype the size of a flash drive.
The prototype runs on an ARM 1.0 GHz processor, with 512 MB of RAM, WiFi 802.11 bgn, HDMI 1.4. Software includes code for Open Source projects, including FFmpeg, SDL, Opus, cURL, OpenSSL, WebM, Headsoft, FreeType, x264. Of course, the final gadget will be released with software under a free license.
Fundraising began yesterday (November 21), and on the first day we managed to raise $ 25K from $ 160K. In theory, the task in 42 days should not be a problem, people liked the idea.
The pre-order for AIRTAME is priced from $ 89 (the batch for $ 69 has already been disassembled), delivery outside Denmark costs $ 15 (May 2014).
