In China, another dissident convicted of speech on the Internet

Last Wednesday, a Chinese city’s Tsibo court found a dissident Li Jianping guilty of “inciting the overthrow of state power” for publishing an essay on his website, in which the writer expressed support for protesting against the actions of the authorities in Hong Kong, Reuters reports . The sentence is three years in prison.

Forty-year-old Li Jianping took part in a demonstration on Tiananmen Square in 1989, and in 2003 he was also found guilty of "calls for the violent overthrow of power."

Today, China is considered the main “journalist jailer” - at least 32 people serve their sentences behind bars who dared to go in defiance of the authorities.
