How I went to World Usability Day

Do you still think that usability is some kind of secret function or designer's skill, multiplied by the adequacy of the manual? I was sure of this before visiting the WUD in Moscow .

The first speaker dmitrysatin dispelled this myth. It turns out that human-centered design is a process that is very clearly and modernly described in ISO and (suddenly) in GOST . This means: usability is not a phantom. This is what you can talk about, explore, improve.
')
For example, in the discussion on Lean UX, an amazing moment sounded for me: each user story is a hypothesis that goes through a certain verification procedure. That is, it can not be brushed off (immediately after the appearance) with the phrase “the user is not a fool”, “why is this a user”. Systems approach.

In fact, I have not digested the sea of impressions. All this is fundamentally new approaches to interfaces from the lips of UX-managers of large and small companies. A lot has been said about the work of the UX-specialist, about his interaction with designers, with his superiors, and most importantly - with users. UX-metrics, means of prioritizing user stories, design issues of emotions, the value of minimalism and a holistic image of the product, the ratio of UX to business objectives.

Talked about it . But rarely does the “theory + practice in one day” chance happen. Maxim Tkachuk conducted a “prototype battle”. Five teams drew a prototype of the application for a given user story. Two or three iterations: corridor testing, feedback analysis, prototype refinement. Great experience!

In the photo: Maxim Tkachuk thinks he doesn't fit into the frame.

Do you know what the problem is? There is an opinion of the user. And there are my templates / prejudices that I want to impose on him. Some speculation. All this is mixed in the head of the UX-designer, and it is very difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff.

But our team may have succeeded.
For winning the “battle” we were given certificates for going to the movies.

... Although I do not agree with the jury: the decision of one of the teams seemed to me more convenient. But he did not argue.

Tutors and jury - UX-troops from the company Kinohod, for which they thank you so much! Without them, this competition would be a waste of time. But thanks to the prompts of the professionals, I hope each participant has made invaluable conclusions.

Thank!

And of course - thanks to all the organizers! Thank you for the atmosphere. If we consider WUD as a conference, then you can find a lot of shortcomings. But this is not a conference! People interested in usability have gathered, just to meet, to celebrate a professional holiday. For conversations, for a cup of tea. But how? how with two hundred visitors managed to keep the impression of a home, family environment? Riddle. Thanks again!
