It was always interesting how the world looks from above. What birds see, what is not visible on googleEarth maps. So came the fascination with multicopter, fly under the clouds, take pictures, shoot video.
The first quadcopter heroically overcame a height of 5 meters and returned to the ground, becoming a pile of debris, holding on for a full minute.
')
The following models flew farther, taller and longer. The dream of a personal altitude record, inflamed in the soul more and more.
For flight in height, the device should fly as long as possible. At least 20 minutes, this time is enough to climb to a height of 1 km, descend, and have a reserve of "fuel in the tanks" for unforeseen situations. It was decided not to use boosters, high-power transmitters, bulky antennas, all elements should be standard.
Initial configuration:
frame with spaced front beams, 16 mm aluminum tube as beams. 2 textolite plates;
Naza v2 + GPS controller;
telemetry Naza miniOSD;
engines Sannysky 3506 / 700kv;
regulators: HobbyWing 30A-Pro OPTO;
propellers GF 12x4.5;
2 x 6200 mAh / 4S battery;
Omway 500mW, 5.8GHz video transmitter;
camera Gopro3 black edition;
Futaba 8FG equipment
After the first flight, I replaced the propellers with carbon 13x4.0 (I had to lengthen the rays a bit). This allowed to increase the flight time from 20 to 28 minutes.
Flight record
On Saturday morning, the time came "H". Left in the field, away from populated areas.
To assess the situation, the behavior of batteries in a minus temperature, the first flight was at an altitude of 600 meters.
Despite all the successful tests, the final flight took place in a lightweight jigsaw. The rise time of 9 minutes, recorded the record and running back. Going down on the copter is always longer than going up; one should not allow a “swing”.
Ways of descent from height:
smooth descent;
spiral down;
descending upside down.
The 3rd method is the fastest but also the most dangerous, the most optimal - a descent in a spiral, but the quadrics went down in the first way.

Findings:
It is possible to conquer 1km, but this is at the limit of Futaba equipment, despite the manufacturer’s statement about a range of 3km, during the whole ascent and descent quadrics often caught failsave and tried to return home on their own.
The antenna receiving video signal must be very good, the signal often disappeared, although the signal was received in Fatshark glasses almost without interference.
Batteries, at low temperatures, must be insulated, because during descent, the load on them decreases and they “freeze” while losing their capacity.
Pay special attention to safety - when failsave the Naza controller returns home, if the copter is at a considerable height above the head, the signal of the equipment is completely lost.
It is better to descend from a height in a spiral, the copter behaves much more stable.
Goupro is better to put in photo mode, the picture should get more interesting than with video.
