72-megapixel camera-ball shoots 360-degree panoramas in flight

The camera-ball, which can shoot spherical panoramas, just throwing it into the air, takes a picture at the highest point of the trajectory, focusing on the built-in accelerometers. The prototype of such a camera was presented two years ago. Now it has been brought to the stage of a serial product - the fundraising campaign is going to IndieGoGo

The camera, called the Panono, has a shockproof plastic case, thread for mounting on a tripod and the shutter button - it can be used in three modes: throwing up, controlling remotely from a smartphone, setting it on a tripod or other mount, and just holding it in your hands if you don’t need it 360-degree panorama.



On the surface of the Panono installed 36 megapixel cameras with fixed focus. It weighs 300 grams and has a diameter of 11 cm. The biggest differences between Panono and a prototype two years ago are in software. Reworked algorithm for stitching images from each small camera into one large panorama with a resolution of 72 megapixels. Mobile apps for viewing panoramas have been created - panoramas can be scrolled by rotating the tablet itself or a smartphone, which becomes, as it were, a “window” into a snapshot. In addition, each customer is provided with an account in the cloud storage for panoramas.

Panono supports communication with the outside world via Bluetooth, WiFi and USB. Internal memory is enough for about 400 shots. The camera is not afraid of light rain and falls from a moderate height (you should not throw it up with all your might, if you are not sure that you can catch it). If you throw carefully, trying to make sure that the camera does not rotate in flight, you can take panoramic shots even in quite dark places. In bright sunlight, rotation does not interfere at all.

Despite the relatively high price - $ 500 for the first 600 buyers and 550 for the rest, the campaign is very active and $ 213,000 of the required 900,000 are collected in just three days.
