New analog and digital boards for Digium Asterisk

SIP has shown a staggering increase in 2012. To be precise, 83%! However, it still occupies only a third of the market. See Webtorials research

But business is still choosing PRI ... Why?

')

And at least because by IP you will not receive a guaranteed SLA connection and will depend entirely on the Internet provider. I'm not talking about correctly configured QoS, firewall and other settings inherent in SIP.

I won't say that the previous line of telephony cards is outdated and needs to be replaced. But those. processes are reduced, power consumption is reduced, the physical dimensions of devices must also strive to the permissible minimum.

Yes, it is precisely the reduction in height of most boards from three units in two, which is the main innovation in the family of boards Digium.

So, if you are thinking of implementing Asterisk or any other PBX on its platform, you can familiarize yourself with the actual products right under the cat.

Analog Boards

A4 Series

Let's start with analog boards. The changes affected both 8 and 4 port boards.

Replacing the TDM410 and AEX410 comes A4A and A4B, respectively:

A4A - PCI Bus

A4B - PCI-E Bus

Modules X100 and S110 remained the same. The size of the main board has changed, and the hardware echo cancellation module has also changed. We will return to the latter later ...

Frankly, it is not clear why Digium decided to continue production of PCI cards (albeit universal ones, under 3.3 and 5 volts). According to sales experience in Russia, PCI cards make up 10-15% of the total number of cards sold. The statistics of 2013, in 2012, was slightly better, but not by much.

Series A8

There are practically no changes here. Usage scenarios are as follows:

A8A - PCI Bus

A8B - PCI-E Bus

Digital boards

TE235 for two E1 streams, and TE435 for four E1 streams. Both motherboards are low profile, only for PCI-E bus. Came to replace the TE220 and TE420.

Now the boards are protected from lightning and power surges, and they can work with high PCI frequency jitter.

Echo cancellation modules

As you could see in the photos above, the ehodavas have become smaller, and as the manufacturer says, they have become more durable. If you were holding previous models in your hands, then you probably remember these fragile legs and thin textolite. Now the likelihood of damage to these modules during transportation is extremely small, moreover, additional support for them has appeared on the main board.

The physical size of the modules is the same, only the voice processor is different.

VPM032 for the A8 and A4 board series, VPM064 for the TE235, and VPM128 for the TE435

Cost comparison

Considered prices for end customers in Russian retail:

2 x E1 (echo)TE220B1462TE235B1462DE230E1182A102de1699
4 x E1 (echo)TE420B2387TE435B2387DE430E1971A104de2699

4 x E1TE4201484TE4351484D410E650A104E1699

I did not make a comparison of analog boards, there the situation is no different from digital ones. Digium is cheaper than Sangoma, but more expensive than OpenVox. By about 20%

Friends, support the developers of open source! Buy original products from the creator of Asterisk. It is then that mistakes will be corrected, new versions of software and new functionality will appear along with them, and world peace will generally come;)

DAHDI 2.8 with support for new boards will be released very soon. At retail in Russia, these boards will appear at the beginning of 2014, the old line will be unavailable for order from February 2014.

Thanks for attention.
