Launch Nokia Lumia 1020 into the air

Today we decided to digress from the new products and developer stories and share with you an unusual project that our colleagues from the Polish headquarters of Nokia created.

They thought about how an unusual way to demonstrate the capabilities of the camera (especially optical image stabilization and shooting in low light conditions) in the flagship Nokia Lumia 1020 and decided to launch the smartphone into the air.
In order to bring the Nokia Copter project to life, the Nokia Poland team has created a “kamerafonodron”. The hexocopter with six electric motors was taken as a basis, which the project creators equipped with a special bracket with a standard "tripod" mount. The Nokia Lumia 1020 was installed on it in the original Camera Grip case.
For lovers of micro-equipment, we’ll specify that Nokia’s photo-drone is equipped with an autonomous control and landing system. The flight time of the hexacopter is 10 minutes, and the flight radius is 2 kilometers. The weight of the entire system in the collection was able to keep around 3 kilograms.

Aerial photography within the project was carried out in 3 cities of Poland: Krakow, Warsaw and Wroclaw. The creators of Nokia Copter tried to capture all the sights from the most picturesque angle, and although now it is difficult to surprise the habraiser with something, we hope you will not regret the minutes spent and get pleasant emotions from viewing.

It is worth noting that in support of this project, the app of the same name was released for Windows Phone 8/7. In it, you can explore an interactive map of cities with flights, see all the videos of the project, and see photos taken on Lumia 1020.
