This robot was written on Habré more than once and not twice - and indeed, a robot that helps astronauts on the ISS is worth mentioning on the resource. This robot always looked a bit strange - because it lacks legs that were not provided for by the developers. But now the developers are going to add legs to the robot, and this will happen next year.
As soon as the legs are attached to the body, the robot will grow up to 2.5 meters at once. Probably, he would not really need his legs at the station, but on the Moon or Mars - on the contrary, Robonaut will not do without them. The legs of the robot are adapted, rather, not for small steps, but for fast running.

Despite the fact that an emergency landing of a robonavt on other planets is not planned, NASA engineers are working hard to make it happen once. Then Robonaut can walk the planet for days and months, at least those are the plans of the developers.
As for the ISS, the developers still plan to try the robot with legs at the station, however, because of the size of Robonaut, there is a danger of a person and a robot colliding (the robot can move very quickly). Such a collision can damage a person, plus there is a danger of damage to the equipment if the robot bumps into this equipment. In general, developers have something to think about.
The robot itself is being developed as part of Project M. Experts have been working on this project for 17 years, and the total implementation period for Project M is 50 years.
