Scratching the monitor - what to do?

Hello comrades. I faced the following problem, I hope someone understands the topic ...

There is a 20-inch LCD monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 205BW). When being transported in the trunk of a car in a foam "frame" (without a box) due to sudden braking, the foam broke and the monitor drove the surface along the edge of the computer case, on which it lay. The result is a 5-centimeter scratch on the protective layer, there are no broken pixels on the matrix, but the scratch is naturally visible and interferes.

The question is - is it possible to “patch up” it somehow? Does nature have some kind of polishing agent that can restore the transparency of the protective layer?
