INCOS - contactless computer control system from Belarus

We are all accustomed to cool projects on Kickstarter. Increasingly, we see our compatriots there, but our native crowd sites are not yet pleased with stunning technologies or the wow effect of cool designer stuff.
When I learned about this project, I could not believe that simple Belarusian guys could carry out such an idea. Now I am actively talking with them and I hope that soon I can write not only a news overview post, but also interesting implementation features, provided with photos of prototypes and descriptions of the technical side of the development.

INCOS (from English INtelligent COntrol System) is a voice, gesture and combined computer control within one device.

How does INCOS work?

')
INCOS has a built-in microcontroller and a processor that allows processing of the mechanics of movements.

Capture of movements occurs with the help of two cameras at a speed of 60 fps and a viewing angle of up to 98 degrees. Infrared illumination allows you to use the device in total darkness and quickly switch to natural lighting without additional calibration. Also, IR illumination has volumetric micro-lenses, which allows to increase the radius of the illumination by a distance exceeding the camera's grip.
The delay in the processing of movement in normal conditions does not exceed 0.03 seconds, with peak loads (processing of movements 5-8 people) the delay does not exceed 0.1 seconds.
Up to 8 people can manage the system simultaneously. In the future, increasing the viewing angle of the camera, it is possible to increase the number of users.

INCOS is intended as an open source project.

INCOS SDK is a completely open system, providing an Open Source license. Thanks to the INCOS SDK, it is possible not only to use the already implemented features of INCOS, but also to create your own programs, games, control systems and much more. You can create your own drivers for any devices connected to INCOS, share them or search for the necessary ones created by other users, according to the existing database of drivers. The driver database is constantly expanding.

INCOS need your help!

Today started collecting funds for the release of the first batch of devices. INCOS on Bumstarter . For the guys any help will be valuable and in any amount, whether financial or informational!
I hope that soon we will be amazed not only by Kickstarter with his novelties and dizzying projects, but also by our compatriots.

Existing analogues

Leap Motion

This is an American development, sales of which have already begun worldwide. They are a box over which you place your hands. It allows you to recognize and capture the movement of hands or other objects, transforming it into actions on the computer.
More information about the device can be found in this habrapost .

Microsoft Kinect

There is nothing to say here. Cool stuff from cool guys =) The authors of INCOS promise that they have something to surprise and win over some users, although, of course, they don’t plan to become a competitor for Microsoft =)

IMotion

image

This is a universal controller that combines precise motion recognition and tactile feedback. The project for the implementation of this device is now running on Kickstarter and it is this one that hubrapost about it pushed me to write this article.

Elliptic labs

Elliptic Labs is a company that introduced an ultrasonic controller, which is a small chip with a microphone and speakers. Compared with optical gesture technologies - Microsoft Kinect or Leap Motion - it not only consumes very little energy, but also has a much larger radius of action. The ultrasonic sensor completely covers the hemisphere in front of the smartphone screen - that is, gestures can be made not only exactly opposite, but also on the side and bottom of the device. More information about the device can be found in this article .

Conclusion

It is very nice that such ambitious projects appear in our developers.
And I hope that I can still share with you more detailed information on the technical implementation and prototyping of the INCOS contactless control system.
