Sunday note on practical experience in the conversion of the monitor from matte to glossy

A little background:
Once I, for my obliquity and lack of restraint, my soul scratched the monitor screen of my roommate in the hostel. Max, could you afford to buy a monitor with a DVI output? !!! Ah ... well.

')
In general, this is how I got ASUS VW193D-B. The scratch was small, practically did not interfere with use. It took a couple of years, I bought myself a monitor of a larger diagonal, and this one went to the cabinet for a well-deserved vacation, because sell it for any significant money is already unrealistic. Well, an extra monitor can always be useful in the household.

Once I read an article on WingedBoar , where he described his experience of removing anti-reflective coating from a monitor. habrahabr.ru/post/146644
Even then I became interested in this, but did not dare. I was afraid to spoil the monitor. As it turned out, there is nothing supernatural about it.

So, if you are interested - under the cut is ready to share what and how I got.

Nothing new, you probably will not know if you have previously read the WingedBoar article.
Why then all this? When I doubt something, I feel calmer by what someone has already done. Sometimes, reading about the same from different sources, it becomes more understandable and even calmer ... In general, to the point.

Looking ahead, I will say that the scratch from the monitor has completely disappeared ...

First we analyze it. I will not dwell at this stage in detail - if anything, look for a manual on the analysis of your particular model.

Yes ... Another moment - take a photo as you analyze - all the connections, plugs, so that later, during assembly, do not fall into a stupor, trying to figure out what to stick in.

Disconnect everything, leaving only the matrix.

We take rags, we cover the matrix from above. We moisten with water. The goal is to keep the rag moist, but the water does not flow under the matrix.

We go about their business. Periodically add water to a rag, if needed.
WingedBoar advises to withstand 4 hours, so that the film is easily gone. It took me 2 hours. Here, apparently, depends on a particular model. But wait a little longer will obviously not be superfluous.

Next, try to pick up a matte film at the edge of the matrix with a fingernail. Did not work out? Soak further.
Gone? Comes off in one piece without much resistance? Excellent - we pull. It feels like it's like removing a protective film from the touchscreen of your phone / tablet. I was afraid that I would take off the polarizer, but, as WingedBoar wrote, you immediately realize that you are shooting a matte film, and not something else.

Everything. Remove adhesive residue, if any. In my case it was not. I just wiped the matrix with a clean cloth.

Reassembly.
We check that the matrix is dry, there are no water leaks anywhere. I would advise you to wait at least a night, if you are not sure. So, just in case.

I was impatient to quickly see the result, therefore, making sure that everything was dry, I immediately began to reassemble.

Light excitement. Just in case, tests were carried out in front of the open balcony door in order to put the monitor in place and take action (fire, smoke, alien attack, etc.).

And, lo and behold !!! Everything is working!!!

So, I got a glossy monitor!

As one good friend of mine told me (by the way, also Maxim),
“This is strange - everyone takes matte for themselves, and you make glossy from matte.
against the system."
So, everyone has their own truth and arguments that it is better - gloss or mat, I propose to leave behind the scenes. Everyone chooses what is closer to him.

By the way, in this way it is quite possible to rid the monitor of shallow scratches and other defects, if the matrix itself is not affected. Upon completion, you can pick up and stick a new matte film.

Thank you for your attention, good luck to all!
