Microsoft does not want to postpone the funeral of Windows XP

June 30, 2008 sales of the Windows XP operating system worldwide will be permanently discontinued. From this point on, only “Vista” will remain, and it will be almost impossible to get a licensed box with XP, although the old OS will continue to spread through OEM channels for corporate customers. It will take several more years, and Microsoft will stop issuing security updates for the “outdated” OS, so that it will remain only with the most marginal users.

About 85,000 Windows XP users, outraged by this prospect and unwilling to upgrade and install Vista to themselves, signed an online petition demanding to extend Windows XP sales for an infinitely long time.

And now, Microsoft has given an official answer to the suffering. It explains that, firstly, the company has already postponed the end date of Windows XP sales for six months, because originally it was planned to say goodbye to it even on December 31, 2007. Secondly, there is no reason to postpone the deadline again.

In general, even if activists collect a million signatures in defense of XP, this is unlikely to save her.
