Amazon refused google

Amazon’s largest online store has denied Google a request to clarify certain features of the book search used on amazon.com, Business Week reported. Google required this information in order to protect itself from prosecution of a group of copyright owners and publishers.

Amazon’s lawyers called the request “overly burdensome”, noting that the information that Google is asking for is a trade secret.

A leading Internet search company is a defendant in a copyright infringement case. A class action lawsuit was filed by a group of authors and major publishers, complaining that Google had opened access to protected materials without the consent of the copyright holders.

Amazon was the first company to refuse a Google request. Similar requests were also sent to Microsoft and Yahoo in early October, as well as to Random House, Holtzbrinck Publishers and HarperCollins. It is expected that all of them also will not provide the required information.
