5-year-old kid hacked Xbox Live authorization

The five-year-old boy from San Diego, Christopher von Hassel (Kristoffer Von Hassel) literally managed to find a vulnerability in Xbox Live authorization mechanisms using the “scientific spear” method.

Once, left alone at home with the console, the guy wanted to play daddy's toys, only the father-miser certainly didn’t leave his password for his son. Trying to get rid of my dad, Christopher discovered that after entering the wrong password, a window appears prompting you to enter the password again and if there just enter a space, the system logs it in as if nothing had happened!

The young hacker began to go through shots of his father, as a result of which, of course, he rather quickly slept in front of his parents. Already preparing to get a belt, he told how he managed to play forbidden games. However, a computer security specialist turned out to be Christopher’s father, so instead of punishment, they all laughed at the “sieve” and reported about the vulnerability to Microsoft technical support.

In response to a message, Microsoft said: “We are always ready to listen to our customers and thank them for drawing our attention to the problems. We take Xbox security seriously and fix vulnerabilities as soon as we learn about them. ”

The company's specialists have already fixed the gap, and Christopher von Hassel added to the list of recognized researchers in the field of information security, which helped to make Microsoft online services better. Also, as a reward from Microsoft, Christopher received four games, $ 50 and an annual subscription to Xbox Live.
