On April 8, 2014, a terrible thing happened in the high-tech world - Microsoft finally officially stopped supporting its most popular Windows XP operating system. The operating system was left without a patch for zero-day threats, millions of users were at risk of being infected with viruses. Nevertheless, not everyone is in a hurry to switch to new versions as the software giant wants - someone feels sorry for someone, someone is used to a painfully familiar interface and a dull wallpaper with green hills. Much more serious is the situation in the corporate environment, where thousands of machines run on Windows XP, the upgrade of which will result in millions of expenses and unforeseen problems over the years with sophisticated corporate software.
But
it turns out that there is a simple hack that allows you to extend the receipt of security updates for Windows XP for the next five years, i.e. until April 2019!
This was made possible by the existence of a special version of Windows XP -
Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 . This system was released in 2009 and is based on Windows XP Service Pack 3. It is designed for various POS-terminals, kiosks, self-service systems. Windows XP users are not allowed to directly install these updates for their operating system. However, there is a way to force the system to do this by simply adding a specific key to the Windows registry.
Open a new file in a warm lamp Notepad, score three lines, save with the .reg extension and run as administrator:
')
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady]
"Installed"=dword:00000001
